Where do I find out how to get help with my mortgage and light bill payment due to Hurricane Ike?

I have a hotel from FEMA for about a month but I have got to pay mortgage and my light bill was due.. I can't get any answers. Does anyone know if they are helping or if I can get a loan??Where do I find out how to get help with my mortgage and light bill payment due to Hurricane Ike?
Let me tell you my experience (from having to deal with two major hurricanes striking my area within 6 months ... IVAN and Dennis) ...

As far as the mortgage payment goes -- YOU need to be proactive and TALK NOW to your Mortgage Company -- They are well aware of the areas affected by the Hurricane, and have put in place (depending on their own decision processes) some ways to either delay that mortgage payment or provide some short term 'relief' (but be aware that you WILL have to eventually pay this amount -- and that means extra interest in the end).

The Electric Bill -- same thing. TALK to the Electric Company and see what they can do to accept a partial payment or some form of budget billing (IF you are living in the Affected Areas).

I can say this -- FEMA does NOT mean ';hand-out'; -- it means help. As someone who lives in a HURRICANE ZONE -- I know that my state (and other states too) ... provide plenty of education and information to EVERY resident of the state (IF ONLY THEY would actually LISTEN) as to what you need to do (as a homeowner/resident) of a Hurricane State. That means -- keeping a Hurricane Survival Kit/Rations .. that means putting aside a good FAMILY BUDGET to pay the bills, etc.

FEMA did NOT (I repeat -- did NOT and does NOT) pay any ';mortgage'; payments -- that is the responsibility of the property owner. The Mortgage will be due whether or not a storm hits one's area ... and IF you are having problems making the mortgage payment already (even before the storm), then that is a signal to take advantage of various VOLUNTEER Programs in your area that can help you through Budget Counseling.

(My Roof was damaged, I had extensive landscape damage ... I lived with no power for some time (since I live rurally -- we were LAST to get power restored) ... and yes, lost food in my Freezer AND Fridge too. What IVAN did not do -- Dennis added to the problems -- and that is the truth) It took at least 3 years before MY area saw the last of the ';Blue Roofs'; on the homes in my neighborhood.Where do I find out how to get help with my mortgage and light bill payment due to Hurricane Ike?
Call your mortgage company, tell them your zip code and let them know that you are in a disaster area. They have a department that should be able to help you if you are unable to make a mortgage payment.

If you need it they should allow you to skip a payment and have it either dispersed throughout the life of your loan or to simply make one additional payment at the end of your loan but that's up to your financial institution. You should not be assessed any penalties, but be sure to cover that with your lender.
I would think FEMA would be directing your questions to the right people, but you never know with our government.

I suggest you get a hold of your utilities and mortgage companies and that might help. If not possibly the Red Cross can direct some assistance to your questions.

GOD BLESS and Good Luck!

Hope you get home soon!

Huggs and prayers!
Welcome back, We'd missed you!

No idea where you can get help. Mr Poulson just help his wallstreet friends with $700 Billion of taxpayers dollars. Try to find Poulsons number, failing that try the whithouse to get you Mr. Poulson's# (In case nobody knew, Poulson came to Whitehouse from Gold .... of the Wallstreet)

surly your local government should be able to help or your bank where you have your mortgage from. they should have some form of policy to assist you.
